Custom Items
Pratham ResPOS provides two ways to add unlisted or one-off items to an order without them being in the product catalogue: Misc Product and Custom Item. Both appear on the product selection screen when enabled.
Age Restriction on Products
Some products — such as alcohol or tobacco — require a minimum age check before they can be added to an order. Pratham ResPOS supports age verification at the category level.
Admin portal only
Age restrictions are configured per category in the admin portal (e.g., setting minimum age 18 on an "Alcohol" category). All products within that category will then trigger an age check on the POS.
How It Works at the POS
When a staff member adds an age-restricted product to an order:
- A Confirm Age dialog appears showing the minimum age requirement.
- The staff member must confirm that the customer meets the age requirement.
- Once confirmed, the product is added to the order.
If the order already has a confirmed age that meets or exceeds the new product's requirement, the dialog is skipped automatically.
Example: If age 18 was already confirmed for a beer, adding another 18+ product won't re-prompt. But adding a product with a higher age requirement (e.g., 25+) will prompt again.
The verified minimum age is recorded on the order and printed on the receipt where applicable.

Important: This is a staff-acknowledged check — it is the responsibility of the staff member to verify the customer's ID. The POS does not scan IDs.
Misc Product
The Misc Product feature lets staff add an unlisted or one-off item to an order with a custom name and price. This is useful for:
- Items not yet in the menu
- Special orders that don't have a dedicated product entry
- Wholesale or custom pricing situations
Enabling Misc Product
The Misc Product button appears on the POS product screen when Custom Item is enabled in POS Settings. Contact your manager if it is not visible.
Adding a Misc Product
- On the product selection screen, tap Misc Product (shown as a tile, usually at the top of the product list).
- The Misc Product dialog opens.
- Select a Category for the item (used for tax and reporting).
- Enter a price using the numeric keyboard, or tap one of the quick-amount buttons ($5, $10, $20, $50, $100).
- Optionally select or enter a name for the item.
- Tap Add to Order.
The item appears on the order as a misc product with the name and price you entered.
Using Presets
Frequently used misc items can be saved as presets to speed up ordering:
- Tap Add Preset to save a name (and optional price) as a preset.
- Presets appear at the top of the Misc Product dialog for quick selection.
- Tap a preset to fill in the name (and price if saved).
- Presets can be edited or deleted by tapping the edit icon next to them.

Custom Item
The Custom Item feature is a simpler variant of Misc Product. Use it to quickly add a one-off item with a name and price when you don't need presets or category selection upfront.
Adding a Custom Item
- Tap Custom Item on the product selection screen.
- Enter an item name (defaults to "Custom Item" if left blank).
- Enter the price.
- Select the applicable tax from the dropdown.
- Tap Add to Order.
The item appears on the order with the name formatted as [Category] – [Item Name].
Misc Product vs Custom Item
| Feature | Misc Product | Custom Item |
|---|---|---|
| Presets | Yes | No |
| Category selection | Yes | Auto (from POS) |
| Tax selection | Auto (by category) | Manual |
| Quick amount buttons | Yes | No |
| Speed | More steps | Faster |
Use Custom Item for a quick ad-hoc charge. Use Misc Product when you need to categorise the item correctly or reuse a saved preset.
